Regulations

1. Use of the Transfer Station and Recycling Center is limited to residents of Turner and businesses located in Turner.

2. Recycling of certain designated items is required and such items may not be disposed of as waste but must be recycled in accordance with rules for recycling.

3. All waste and items to be recycled must be deposited in the appropriate designated location.

4. Waste other than recyclable items, demolation materials, brush, motor oil, and paint and excluded items shall be placed in the compactors for disposal and must be loose or in transparent bags. For sale at the Town Office.

5. Demolition material, TV sets, furniture, insulation, roof shingles, tar paper etc. are to be placed in a container or area designate for such waste.

6. PROHIBITED WASTES: Asbestos wastes, hot loads, stumps, burning materials, trees, automobile bodies, hazardous wastes, pressurized containers, liquid wastes, animal wastes or carcasses, medical wastes

 

Recycling Guidelines

Recycling is required by businesses and resdients of Turner using the Transfer Station/Recycling Center. While the items to be recycled and methods of preparing those items may change from time to time, the following is a list of items currently being recycled at the facility.

 

Plastic-#2, such as milk, water, detergent and many shampoo containers. Look for the #2 in a triangle symbol on the item. Rinse and remove metal, plastic lids, caps, and rings. Labels may be left on. Flatten the containers. DO NOT RECYCLE plastic bottles that are clear, glossy, yogurt, cottage cheese, or margarine containers.
NO MOTOR OIL CONTAINERS

 

Glass- All glass. Rinse and remove metal, plastic lids, cpas, and rings. Labels may be left on. DO NOT RECYCLE window glass,light bulbs, dishes, mirrors, Pyrex, ceramics. Dispose of these materials with demo or regular waste.

 

Tin Cans- Any food or pet food can, spray can, empty paint can, and their tin covers. Rinse food cans. Empty spray cans and wipe paint cans as clean as possible. Cut out ends and flatten. DO NOT RECYCLE ~ Paint cans with caked or dried paint in them. Put in regular household trash.

 

Newspapers/Magazines- Newspaper and all inserts and advertising. Bring loose in stacks with no strings, boxes or bags.

 

Mixed Paper-Almost any type of paper. Junk mail, envelopes, cereal boxes, cracker boxes, paperboard, posters, egg cartons and trays, dog food bags, wrapping and office paper are examples. Bring loose or in mixed paper container that is recyclable. DO NOT RECYCLE dirty, wet or contaminated paper, or Paper with metal foil attached. Dispose of them with regular waste.

 

Cardboard/Brown Paper Bags-Brown corrugated cardboard and brown paper grocery bags. Flatten all boxes and bags. Cut larger boxes into pieces not larger than 3x4 feet. DO NOT RECYCLE foreign made cardboard, paper board, dirty or wet cardboard.

 

Oil- Used motor oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and #2 fuel. All containers shall be placed in the designated area to be disposed of by STAFF, no paint thinner, gasoline, or highly flammable fluids.

 

 

Tires-Automobile tires and tubes. Up to 16 1/2 inches are $2.00 each and 16 1/2-22 inches are $4.00. Remove rims. Receipt required from Town Office for disposal.

 

Metal and Appliances- Scrap metal of all types, stoves refridgerators, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners. Seperate refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. Fees for these items $10.00 each. Reciept required from Town Office. Remove doors or lids and place in designated areas. NO plastic, fiberglass, garbage or junk cars or trucks.

 

Paints-All paints must be completely hardened in the container or the container must be empty. These cans and completely empty cans shall be disposed of in regular household waste.

 

Permit-A blue Transfer Station Permit Sticker is required as of July 2003 and can be obtained at the Town Office.

 

NOTICE

All outdoor burning of household trash became illegal after September 18, 2001. No more use of outside barrels.

 

No PICKING of Materials Deposited at the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.
