Help Wanted – Animal Control Officer

The Town of Turner is seeking a new Animal Control Officer. Turner utilizes the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society as its contracted shelter and, in 2024, 12 stray dogs and 24 stray cats were taken in by the ACO. Calls for service of all types is estimated at 60-80 per year. This is a contracted position, paid in monthly installments, with services provided on an as-need basis, including after hours and on weekends. The annual contract amount is intended to cover all costs for training/certification, mileage, materials and equipment needed. Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry rules require certification within 6 months of appointment if the selected candidate is not already certified, and annual training thereafter.
