Public Boat Launches

Traveling nearly 180 miles to the Gulf of Maine, the Androscoggin River is one of the largest river tributaries in the State of Maine. Because several of Western Maine’s textile industry leaders established on the banks of the Androscoggin, water quality had once been a major concern.  However, due to a state-wide effort to clean Maine’s public water system, the river’s water quality is much improved.  Today, the Androscoggin is a fisherman’s paradise.  The River is home to a healthy population of brook, rainbow, and brown trout, landlocked salmon, and smallmouth bass.  Due to the neighboring Androscoggin Riverlands State Park, anglers young and old and boaters are able to enjoy the area with ease.

Located on Rt. 219 in Turner, Bear Pond is bordered by the Towns of Turner and Hartford.  Renowned for its clean water and great ice fishing, Bear Pond is also home to Turner’s municipal beach.  With over 200 feet of sandy beachfront and a large, shaded picnic area, it is a wonderful spot for Turner residents to enjoy. Residents of Turner can purchase a Bear Pond Beach Pass for unlimited use for their family and friends.

Bear Pond Beach Passes are available for purchase at the Turner Town Office. The beach is open from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Vital to the establishment of the Town of Turner, the Nezinscot River runs east from the west branch of the Androscoggin River.  With its banks slithering from Turner Center, behind the Old Town House, and finally reaching the Androscoggin River, the Nezinscot River provides wonderful opportunities for canoeing and kayaking, as well as recreational fishing.
